In Jesus’ last sermon to the apostles before his death, he foretold of a Comforter who would come to perform certain functions. One of those functions was reproving the world of sin and unbelief. While there are many secondary evidence of a child of God (and thus evidence of the Holy Spirit in one’s heart), the primary evidence is a belief in Jesus Christ and forsaking sin to serve the Lord.
