We see from 1st Peter the purification of the Spirit is not the means by which we are born again, but rather it is an evidence that we are already born again. When we see active faith and belief exhibited in the life of an individual, then that is evidence that they are already born again. Then the Spirit will also move to guide us to live holy, righteous lives, not lives of sin and iniquity. The Spirit will lead us to greater purification in our walk of discipleship.
