Love is the defining attribute of God – God is love. Jesus’ love towards His people did not begin when they met a condition to believe, etc. but rather He has loved them with an everlasting love. We look at Christ’s love toward His people from the vantage point of His choice of a Bride to covenant to marry. The bride that Christ chose is wholly unworthy of His affection and his love. When we understand election as Christ’s choice of a bride to bestow favor upon His beloved and leaving all others in the state they were in, then we can properly see that election is not unfair, but rather is it simply an exaltation of Christ’s love towards an unworthy bride.
