In scripture, the sword is consistently presented as an emblem of the judgment of God. All men are justly condemned before a holy God, and the sword of God’s judgment must be exacted to pay the full brunt of the penalty. The beautiful message of the gospel, however, is that Jesus Christ took the brunt of the sword of God’s judgment for all our sins.
