Once a year the high priest was the only person allowed to enter into the Holy of Holies on the Day of Atonement. This sacrifice on the Day of Atonement was to roll forward sins for 12 more months for the nation of Israel. This sacrifice is pointing towards Jesus Christ, our Great High Priest who entered into the presence of God once to put away sins by the sacrifice of his own blood upon the mercy seat of God. Our Great High Priest finished the work of salvation and put away sins by the sacrifice of himself!
